Julia Ling, born Xiao Wei[1] Lin (Chinese: 林小微; pinyin: Lín Xiǎowēi) is an American actress. Her television work includes recurring roles on NBC series such as ER, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, and as a series regular on Chuck.[2]

Early life and education[edit]

Ling was born in Temple City, California.[1][3]

At age 6, Ling won the “Best Storyteller Award” by Chinese World News for storytelling. Ling’s artwork was featured on the front page of Pasadena Star News and in magazines and festivals. By age 9, Ling was performing award-winning solo dances throughout California, and her umbrella dance had aired on national television.

At Temple City High School, as a scholar athlete, she competed in dance, tennis, and swimming.

At UCLA, Ling majored in biomedical chemical engineering. She was Treasurer of the Chemical Engineering Society, Vice President of the Engineering Society of UCLA, and honorary member of the Society of Women Engineers.

Career[edit]

Ling has starred in over 20 independent films and had numerous TV roles. She made her TV debut in 2003 on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and later starred in the recurring role of Kim Tao on NBC’s Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. She played Anna Wu on NBC’s Chuck for 3 seasons. Her other major guest and recurring roles on television include stints on House, ER, Grey’s Anatomy, The O.C. and The Deep End.

In 2007, Ling competed in the martial arts competition Jackie Chan Disciples. She was selected as a “Top Four Finalist” representing the U.S. at the International Finalists tournament in China. Her performance also won her the “Best Acting Award”. She was unable to compete in China because of her role on Chuck.

In 2008, Ling voiced and filmed her first live action series for the video game Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3.

In 2012, Navarro confirmed she’s in a relationship with Gerardo Casanova.[2][3] In February 17, 2015 Silvia confirmed her pregnancy and later revealed that the baby was a boy.[4][5] On September 7, 2015 she announced that she gave birth to her first son, Léon.[6][7][8]

Career[edit]

Navarro’s career began when she was still a baby, appearing in ads for different brands. As a child, she did casting for children’s telenovela Carrusel and got a role, but had to quit to go live with her father in another city.[9][10][11] On age 18, Navarro was the host of a game show called A la cachi, cachi porra, broadcast by Canal Once.[11]

In 1998, she did casting for Azteca‘s telenovela Perla, and unexpectedly, won the leading role.[11] After that she continued to appear in Azteca’s telenovelas in a leading roles such as: Catalina y Sebastián, La calle de las novias, Cuando seas mía, La duda and La heredera.[11]

In 2007, after three years of absence from telenovelas, Navarro returns to Azteca to star in Montecristo. The same year, she joined the cast of the play Chicas católicas, which tell the story of several girls between age 6 and 12, who begin to discover the life,[12] and star in the film Amor letra por letra alongside Plutarco Haza.[11]

In 2008, after 10 years, Navarro left Azteca and joined Televisa.[13] On August 23, 2008, Navarro joined the cast of the production of Nicandro Díaz González, Mañana es para siempre alongside Fernando Colunga and Lucero. It become the most successful telenovela in the United States, where it’s followed by more than 6 million viewers.[14][15]

In 2009 she participated in the play Todos eran mis hijos, and in the movies, Cabeza de Buda, Asesino serial.[11]

In 2010, Navarro appeared in Cuando me enamoro, produced by Carlos Moreno, achieving again a great success in rating.[16] In addition, she opened her first restaurant, ‘Sabor Amor’.[17] On 2014, three years later, she closed it after low revenue.[18]

In 2011, Navarro starred in the Comedy film Labios rojos, alongside Jorge Salinas, where she plays a woman who seeks by all means the solution to the sexual problems she has with her husband.[19]

She returned to the small screen in 2012, starring in Amor bravío, produced by Carlos Moreno, and gave life to ‘Camila’, a strong woman who after a great tragedy seeks her life and destiny in the Hacienda ‘La Malquerida’.[20] Two years later, Navarro starred in the comedy Mi corazón es tuyo, a production of Juan Osorio, alongside Jorge Salinas and Mayrín Villanueva.[21]
