Nell Hudson (2014)
Occupation Actress

Nell Rose Hudson is an English actress best known for her recurring role as Laoghaire MacKenzie in the Starz television drama series Outlander. In 2016 and 2017, she portrayed the role of Mrs Skerrett in the ITV period drama series Victoria.

Early life[edit]

In 2012, Hudson graduated from the Oxford School of Drama in acting.[1]

Career[edit]

Television and film career[edit]

Hudson first started her career as a guest star in the eleventh episode of the fifteenth series of the BBC One medical drama television series Holby City.[2] In 2014, she landed the part as Laoghaire MacKenzie in Outlander.[3] On her character during the series’ mid-season episode, Hudson stated that “when you are in just a lot of pain, it comes out as anger… I think that’s quite a human characteristic, basically, and I think that’s definitely what happens is that she’s [Laoghaire] got all this pain and she doesn’t know what to do with it and it comes out in this very kind of aggressive way and she does whatever she can do to rectify the situation.”[4]

Hudson guest-starred as Paulette Roland, a 17-year-old diabetic who discovers that she is pregnant and is presented with the possibility of a dangerous pregnancy or a legal abortion, in the sixth episode of the fourth series of the BBC medical period drama series Call the Midwife, which aired on 22 February 2015.[5]

Nell Hudson also appeared in the TV series Victoria, a biopic on the life of Queen Victoria. Hudson played the part of Mrs Skerrett, who (in the TV series) worked in the royal household as the Queen’s dresser.

Theatre career[edit]

On 14 May 2015, Hudson played Lydia Bennet in Tamara Harvey’s production of Jane Austen‘s Pride and Prejudice at the Sheffield Crucible, alongside James Northcote and Isabella Laughland.[6][7]

Personal life[edit]

Hudson is also a singer-songwriter[8] and she appeared with Jools Holland on 14 and 15 May 2014.
